Pop-up sunflower field
There’s not been much sunshine to speak of this year but we have managed to cultivate some serious sunflowers! Back in June we told you about how we had planted them in a field on our farm. This plan came about following a conversation with our dear nephew, Ed. We had spoken to him earlier in the year and had decided that the empty field would look fantastic filled with a sea of sunflowers for everyone to enjoy. Little did we know at the time, that Ed would not be with us to enjoy them. Sadly he was diagnosed with advanced leukaemia and passed away after a short battle with the disease at just 25 years’ old. We were, of course, all absolutely devastated at this news.
While grieving over the loss of Ed, who was taken far too young, we have found joy in seeing the sunflowers grow in the sunshine, knowing that Ed was part of this plan. The sunflowers are now in full bloom and we want to share ‘Ed’s sunflowers’ with as many people as possible, which is why we have decided to open our sunflower field for everyone to enjoy on Sunday 29th August 2021.
Come on down to our farm, take a look at the sunflowers and get some Instagram perfect pictures in the field, enjoy cake and drinks in our waterside picnic area, sit on a tractor (probably of most appeal to the children among us!) and say hello to our Highland Cattle and Donkeys. We will have a fun farm sunflower quiz for all to enjoy as well, while sunflowers will also be on sale on the day.
All money we make from the day will be donated to Marie Curie Cancer Care, a charity close to our hearts given the fantastic job they did caring for Ed in his final days.
Whether you knew Ed or not, we would love for you to come along, enjoy our sunflowers in his honour and raise money for a great cause.
If you can’t make it on the day but would like to donate, please visit https://bit.ly/3AVMmDQ.
